Welcome!
Reframing Capital is an idea inspired by a simple question.
In Episode #5 of the 50 Fires podcast, host Carl Richards wraps up the episode by asking guest (and co-Producer) Chip Gaines the following question:
“Let’s pretend 20 years from now I’m still doing this show. And your 5-year-old son (who would be 25 at that time) comes on as a guest, and I ask him what money means to him. What would you hope he would say?”
Maybe it’s because Chip’s son and my son are only several months apart in age, but that question planted itself in the back of my mind for several weeks. As a result, Reframing Capital was formed as a personal response to the question: “What do you hope your kids would say about money 20 years from now?”
Quite frankly, I don’t know that I’ll ever have a definitive, singular statement for how I hope they would answer that question. However, a good starting point for me is to redefine capital’s meaning with the premise that we have far greater resources to spend/save/give/invest/steward than just money. In a way, I hope to reframe what capital is instead of capital framing who they are or who they become.
